BIRN Presents Key Findings on Open Data and Digitalization in Albania

On October 25, 2024, BIRN Albania unveiled the main findings of the regional report “Open Data and Digitalization in the Western Balkans: The State of Play” to an audience of 25 professionals from media, research, and activist sectors.
Moderated by Kristina Voko, Executive Director of BIRN Albania and a national researcher for the study, the event highlighted critical insights into Albania’s legal framework, strategies, and challenges related to open data and digitalization.
Participants, including journalists Vladimir Karaj and Ola Xama, shared experiences with data accessibility, citing obstacles such as unresponsive institutions and inaccessible data formats. Rigels Xhemollari, Executive Director of Civic Resistance, discussed public satisfaction with the e-Albania platform, while Megi Reci explored e-government from a human rights perspective, identifying instances of discrimination in data access.
The event concluded with lively discussions and recommendations for future initiatives, marking an important step in advancing open data and digitalization efforts in the region. The project is supported by the Open Society Foundation for the Western Balkans.
