Green & Sustainable Transition

Lead: IPECC (North Macedonia)
Co-Lead: Milieukontakt Albania

About this working group

The green transition is both an integration accelerator and a test of governance capacity: every Western Balkans Six government has signed up to the Green Agenda, the Sofia Declaration and the Energy Community acquis, yet the region remains behind on delivery. This group focuses on energy security and the shift away from fossil fuels, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) readiness and its economic implications for regional exporters, and access to green investment and EU funding, including through the Western Balkans Green Agenda. It also addresses environmental governance and climate resilience, from air and water quality to floods, droughts, and biodiversity loss.
