Green transition in the Western Balkans has been so far a top-down project limiting its transformative potential and sustainable outcomes across societies. Citizens engagement in shaping the results of energy transition is critical to ensure social consensus, the necessary speed and fairness of the process.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project aims to encourage school communities to take an active role in climate action, improve energy transition outcomes, and promote sustainable practices.
LOCAL IMPACT
The project targets a total of 21 schools from the Municipalities of Berovo, Štip, and Skopje in North Macedonia, Valjevo in Serbia, Gjakova in Kosovo, and Gračanica, Lopare, and Živinicein in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
REGIONAL IMPACT
Through its diverse range of activities, the project seeks to raise awareness, strengthen capacities, and encourage cooperation, striving for a future in the Western Balkans that is resilient to climate change and independent in energy resources.
PROGRESS TO DATE
- Over 20,000 students, teachers, and parents informed about climate change implications through 21 local campaigns.
- 63 workshops on energy transition and democratization organized in 21 schools. Engaged a total of 1,575 pupils in climate change discussions through these workshops.
- 12 capacity-building sessions for school staff, involving a total of 100 participants.
- 21 small-scale project applications on climate action created through capacity-building training.
