Strategic Minerals, Strategic Future: Policy Recommendations for Circular and Sustainable CRM Value Chains in Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia

This project, implemented by New Third Way, will pilot the development of actionable critical raw materials (CRM) governance models in Albania, North Macedonia, and Serbia. It combines comparative research of international CRM strategies with national roundtables in Belgrade, Skopje, and Tirana to identify practical steps for green industrial policy, circular economy integration, industrial waste recovery, and regional value chain development.
Based on these findings, country-specific policy roadmaps and briefs will outline recommendations to strengthen local value chains, reduce extraction dependency, and revitalize post-coal regions through sustainable investment.
The project also includes a strong dissemination and stakeholder engagement component and is supported by the Initiative for Responsible Mining (IRMA), which will provide research guidance and strategic expertise.
