As part of the Civil Society Forum Tirana 2023, supported by the Open Society Foundations Western Balkans, Zasto ne as the lead of the Thematic Working Group on Digitalization and Connectivity produced this policy brief with key recommendations on these two prominent matters for the EU integration. The brief outlines actionable strategies to align the Western Balkans with the EU’s Digital Services Act and strengthen regional frameworks for tackling disinformation and enhancing online platform accountability. Grounded in extensive consultations with regional experts, stakeholders, and policymakers, the recommendations aim to foster safer, more equitable digital environments and prepare the Western Balkans for integration into the EU Digital Single Market, emphasizing regional cooperation, regulatory harmonization, and the protection of citizens’ rights in the digital space.
