During November 2023, as part of the Sunny Schools Initiative, photovoltaic panels were successfully installed in four public schools in the municipalities of Gračanica, Lopare, Živinice, and Klokotnica. This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainability and resilience, resulting in annual savings of 10,000 euros for the municipality. Additionally, the PV plants contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions, estimated at 84 tons per year, thereby positively impacting the local environment and community health. A total of 3000 Students attending these schools directly benefit from this eco-friendly initiative. The saved financial amount is agreed to be reinvested into the schools through investments from the municipality in line with priorities defined by the school community. Through this practical model of energy democratization, the Sunny Schools Initiative supports the local government and the education community in participating in the energy transition to ensure that its outcomes serve the community. This initiative exemplifies proactive environmental stewardship and economic efficiency, serving as a model for other communities striving to decrease their carbon footprint.
