Xhelal Svecla

Xhelal Svecla is the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kosova, currently serving his fourth term in this position. He oversees policies and institutional priorities in the areas of public security, law enforcement, civil protection, migration, border management and the rule of law. Mr. Sveçla graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Tirana and has extensive experience in public service, humanitarian work and civil society. His public engagement began as a student activist in the 1990s, and in 1998 he joined the Kosovo Liberation Army.

Prior to his appointment as Minister, Mr. Sveçla served as Director of the Inspection Directorate in the Municipality of Prishtina and as a Member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosova, where he chaired the Committee on Communities and served on the Committee on Internal Affairs. In 2020, he served as Deputy Minister and Acting Minister of Internal Affairs and Public Administration. He was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs in March 2021 and has continued to lead the Ministry through successive terms, now serving his fourth mandate.
